Damon FAQ

Learn More About Damon Braces

At Dr. Gordon Niles Orthodontics, our mission is to provide the Brighton community with the highest quality orthodontic care using the latest orthodontic technologies and techniques. We want all of our patients to enjoy having healthy and attractive smiles that can last a lifetime!

Among the many types of treatments we use, our practice is proud to offer Damon braces to patients of all ages. Damon is a system of tie-less brackets that do not need to be tightened. These braces quickly move teeth and require few adjustments. If you have any questions about Damon, Dr. Niles answers some of the most common questions we get in the office, but don’t hesitate to give us a call if you can’t find what you’re looking for or would like to know more!

Q: What makes Damon braces so unique?

A: With the Damon System, Dr. Niles does more than just bring teeth into proper alignment as we create beautiful smiles. With Damon braces, several factors are taken into consideration when first diagnosing your smile. Your face, profile and other factors are important in anticipating what you will look like in your 40s, 50s and beyond. Damon braces are designed to deliver results which will last a lifetime.

Q: How long will I have to wear Damon braces?

A: Treatment types vary by patient, but typically, it is much faster with Damon braces than with conventional braces. There are also fewer appointments required during treatment.

Q: Is treatment with Damon braces unsafe or harsh because these braces work quickly?

A: No. In fact, the reason Damon braces work so quickly is that this system uses faster, more biologically sensible forces than regular braces. Damon braces do not produce much friction when moving the teeth for improved tooth positioning and improved facial harmony. Lightweight “shape memory” wires made of titanium are used to gently guide the teeth into their ideal position. Many people wearing Damon braces experience very little discomfort.

Q: Will I feel pain after adjustments are made?

A: While your teeth may be somewhat sensitive after adjustments are made, feeling pain is not something Damon patients usually experience.

Q: Are Damon braces big and bulky?

A: No. Damon braces are smaller than conventional braces and since they do not use any elastics, the brackets are less noticeable than regular braces.

Q: I am an adult. Can I be treated with Damon braces?

A: Yes. Adults can straighten their teeth with Damon braces and expect excellent results.

Q: Is treatment with Damon braces costly?

A: The cost of treatment with Damon braces is similar to the cost of treatment for conventional braces. The type of treatment you need and how long it will take will determine how much your treatment will cost exactly.

Q: Will my insurance cover the cost of Damon braces?

A: Because insurance plans vary, you should read through your policy to find out if orthodontic coverage is included. If you have insurance, Damon braces are covered to the same extent as regular braces.

Q: Does your practice offer any payment options?

A: Yes. We never want finances to stand in the way of our patients getting the treatment they need. In addition to accepting payment by cash, check and Visa, MasterCard, Discover & American Express, our practice also offers flexible in-house payment plans and financing through CareCredit to help our patients cover the cost of their treatment.
